Some people commit an insurance scam not thinking that this can negatively affect not just the insurance company but also its members who are honestly following the legal contract.

The cost of insurance premium is directly associated with the risk of having road accidents.  If a company has agreed to pay for a person’s car insurance, it simply means that it has already assessed the likelihood of an accident.  For example, if a person has a tarnished driving record, the company will most likely demand higher insurance rate because there is a great chance that the individual is not a safe and responsible driver.

For those policy holders, it is important that they follow all the things stated on the insurance contract.  For example, when the car has been damaged and the driver is not the policy holder, insurance company will not provide assistance if the contract entails that only the policy holder is insured.  Unfortunately, people sometimes lie and tell to the company that they are the ones who are driving when the accident happened instead of admitting that someone else did.

It is also important that policy holders follow the legal contract.  Remember, breaching the contract means that they are also breaking the law, thus, they can be charged with a legal case.

There is a mentality that when a person committed a scam against an insurance company, he/she is only harming the business’ profit (since the company is forced to pay for illegitimate claims).  But contrary to this belief, other members of the insurance company will be also affected because the cost of the “fake” claims will be passed on to them.

While it may be tempting to fool the insurance company by allowing this to pay for such illegitimate claims, a person should realize that other members are the ones mostly affected because they will be forced to pay for higher insurance rates.  This is the reason why companies are so cautious when giving insurance claims because it want to protect other members who are honest in paying their rates and follow the legal contract.
